Where the ACS gas portfolio fits

For many new entrants, supervised on-site work and portfolio evidence form part of the training route completed before progressing to the relevant ACS assessment. Trainees often call this an “ACS portfolio” or a “Gas Safe portfolio”, although it is not a portfolio issued by Gas Safe Register.

  1. Completed: Your programme requirements

Set through your training centre or provider

  2. You are here: Supervised on-site experience and evidence

Real jobs, evidence captured as you work. This is us.

  3. Programme completion and verification

Through the process your programme requires

  4. Relevant ACS assessment

Carried out by the relevant assessment centre, not by us

  • Three Gas Safe registered engineers
  • High volume of live domestic work in London
  • Approx. 2 weeks on site
  • Around 3–5 suitable jobs a day
  • Start from zero portfolio progress
  • Free suitability check first

Your placement is planned around the evidence your review identifies. These are genuine customer jobs, so the exact order and the day each job type appears can vary.

Finding Someone to Help With Your Portfolio Shouldn’t Be This Difficult.

Most people finish the classroom part of their ACS course and hit the same wall. You need real jobs, on real sites, with a Gas Safe registered engineer who has the time to take you out and the patience to get the evidence right. Finding that engineer is where it stalls — sometimes for months.

Sound familiar?

  • “I've finished my course but can't find an engineer.”
  • “I don't know what jobs my portfolio needs.”
  • “I'm worried my evidence won't be accepted.”
  • “I need someone to take the right pictures.”
  • “I don't know how to organise the portfolio.”
  • “My training centre keeps asking for more evidence.”

That is the whole reason this service exists. We take you out on live jobs, capture the evidence your portfolio actually asks for, help you organise it, and sort out the sign-off — so the portfolio stops being the thing standing between you and finishing.

Not sure what your portfolio actually needs yet? Read our guide to what an ACS gas portfolio is and what goes in it.

How it works

Six steps, start to finish.

  1. Step 1

    Free suitability check

Send us your details, your programme or training centre information and any paperwork you have. We check whether we can help. No payment.

  2. Step 2

    Detailed review — £50

If we are a good fit, we read your requirements properly and work out the evidence, tasks and job types your placement needs to cover.

  3. Step 3

    Agree the plan and milestones

You see what the placement is aiming to cover, and exactly what triggers each later stage payment. Nothing is left vague.

  4. Step 4

Join the engineers on live jobs

Approximately two weeks alongside our Gas Safe registered engineers on live domestic work in and around London.

  5. Step 5

Complete the work and capture evidence

You carry out the relevant supervised tasks and the evidence is captured as the work happens, rather than reconstructed afterwards.

  6. Step 6

    Organise the portfolio

Each piece of evidence is matched to the applicable requirement, in an order that can actually be assessed.

  7. Step 7

    Applicable engineer evidence and sign-off

Completed where the required work has been carried out under the appropriate supervision and the applicable requirements are satisfied.

  8. Step 8

    You submit through your programme

You progress through the process required by your training centre or programme. That assessment is theirs, not ours.

What You Get For £450

One price for the whole thing — the review, the on-site experience, the evidence, the organisation, the sign-off and the support afterwards. No hourly rate and nothing to add on later.

We cannot guarantee that you will pass an ACS assessment — that sits with the relevant assessment process, not with us.

And not all at once. You pay it across four stages as the work gets done, starting at £50 to have your portfolio reviewed. See how it splits.

Who this is for

If any of this sounds like you, we can help.

Your portfolio is still completely blank

That is fine, and it is where a lot of people start. You do not need any progress before you come to us — only the requirements you are working to, so we know what to plan around.

You have started but stalled

You got some of it done, then ran out of access to suitable work and it has been sitting there since.

It has come back for corrections

Your training centre has asked for more or different evidence and you need to get back on site to get it.

You cannot find an engineer

You have contacted engineer after engineer and nobody has the time or the volume of suitable work to take you out.

Portfolio support guarantee

If your training centre identifies a legitimate problem with evidence, organisation or applicable engineer sign-off that Gas Track Academy provided as part of your agreed portfolio support, we will work with you to correct that part at no additional charge.

This is the part people worry about most, and fairly so. You are not left on your own if something comes back, and there is nothing further to pay for putting right work we were responsible for.

What it does not mean

  • It is not a guarantee that you will pass an ACS assessment
  • It is not a guarantee that a training centre will accept your entire portfolio regardless of circumstances
  • It does not cover your performance in an assessment
  • It does not cover work or evidence completed elsewhere
  • It does not cover entirely new requirements introduced after the scope we reviewed and agreed
  • It does not allow sign-off for work that was not actually carried out and supervised as required

FAQ

The questions we get asked most.

Can you help if I have not started my portfolio at all?

Yes. A completely blank portfolio is fine and it is where plenty of people start. What we need to see is the requirements you are working to, so we know what evidence and job types to plan around. Being 0% complete is not a problem; not being on a recognised training route is a different matter, and we will tell you if that is the case.

What happens during the free suitability check?

You send your details, your training centre or provider, the programme you are working toward and any paperwork you have. We look at whether our service suits your route and requirements, and tell you if it does not. There is no payment at this stage and no obligation.

What does the £50 detailed review include?

We read your portfolio, checklist and requirements properly, identify the evidence and tasks still outstanding, work out which job types your placement needs to cover, agree the milestones that trigger the later payments, and set out the proposed on-site plan.

Is the £50 refundable?

The £50 pays for the detailed review. Once that review has been carried out, the fee is not refundable, subject to your statutory rights.

Do I pay £450 upfront?

No. £450 is the total including VAT, paid in four stages: £50 for the detailed review, £150 at the agreed halfway milestone, £150 when the remaining agreed on-site milestone is complete, and £100 for compiling the portfolio and the applicable engineer evidence and sign-off.

Step one — free

Check if we can help

This first check is free. We use what you send to see whether our service suits your route and your portfolio requirements. If we cannot help, we will tell you before you pay anything.

If we are a good fit, the next step is the £50 detailed review — that is where we work through your requirements properly and agree the plan.
