FAQ
Everything people ask us.
Can you help if I have not started my portfolio at all?
Yes. A completely blank portfolio is fine and it is where plenty of people start. What we need to see is the requirements you are working to, so we know what evidence and job types to plan around. Being 0% complete is not a problem; not being on a recognised training route is a different matter, and we will tell you if that is the case.
What happens during the free suitability check?
You send your details, your training centre or provider, the programme you are working toward and any paperwork you have. We look at whether our service suits your route and requirements, and tell you if it does not. There is no payment at this stage and no obligation.
What does the £50 detailed review include?
We read your portfolio, checklist and requirements properly, identify the evidence and tasks still outstanding, work out which job types your placement needs to cover, agree the milestones that trigger the later payments, and set out the proposed on-site plan.
Is the £50 refundable?
The £50 pays for the detailed review. Once that review has been carried out, the fee is not refundable, subject to your statutory rights.
Do I pay £450 upfront?
No. £450 is the total including VAT, paid in four stages: £50 for the detailed review, £150 at the agreed halfway milestone, £150 when the remaining agreed on-site milestone is complete, and £100 for compiling the portfolio and the applicable engineer evidence and sign-off.
Does the £450 include VAT?
Yes. Every price shown on this site includes VAT.
How are the payment milestones decided?
During the £50 detailed review, against your actual requirements. They are written down, so you know exactly what has to be completed before the next stage becomes due.
How long is the placement?
Approximately two weeks on site. The exact length depends on what your review identifies that you still need.
How many jobs will I attend?
We aim for around three to five suitable jobs a day. Our engineers carry out a high volume of live domestic work, so there is a broad mix of job types to schedule your portfolio work around.
What if the exact job I need is not on the schedule that day?
These are live customer jobs, so the exact order changes from day to day. We do not send you out randomly: your requirements are reviewed first and your placement is planned around the evidence you need. Because of the volume and range of domestic work our engineers carry out, the relevant job types come through and we schedule your portfolio work around them.
Where does the work happen?
On live customer jobs in and around London. You make your own way to site and meet the engineer at the job — your travel is not included in the price.
Will I be working with Gas Safe registered engineers?
Yes. Gas Track Academy is three Gas Safe registered engineers, all of whom went through the new-entrant route themselves relatively recently.
Will an engineer sign my portfolio?
Where the required work has been completed under the appropriate supervision and the applicable requirements are satisfied, the relevant Gas Safe registered engineer completes the appropriate evidence and sign-off. It follows the work — it is not a signature that can be issued for jobs that were not done.
What if my training centre asks for corrections?
If they identify a legitimate problem with evidence, organisation or applicable sign-off that we provided as part of your agreed support, we work with you to correct that part at no additional charge.
Is passing my ACS assessment guaranteed?
No, and nobody can honestly promise that. Your assessment sits with the relevant assessment and training process, not with us. We provide the supervised on-site experience, the evidence and the portfolio support.
What is not included in the £450?
Your travel to and from jobs, accommodation, any fees charged by your training provider or training centre, ACS assessment fees, and Gas Safe registration fees.
What do I need to bring?
Your portfolio folder, or whatever your training centre has given you setting out the requirements. Bring it even if it is incomplete or you are not sure what half of it means.
Still working out what a portfolio even involves?
Our guide covers what a Gas Safe portfolio is, what evidence goes in it, who can sign it off and what varies between training centres.
